Centering people in genetics healthcare & research

I have had a variety of roles across research, engagement, communication and health. I have a PhD in genetics and have worked across complex public and corporate organisations to advance public engagement since 2012..

A bit about me

I am passionate about improving practices in health and research and have a lot of experience in supporting improved partnership working across disciplines. I aim to provide meaningful, creative opportunities to learn, engage and collaborate.

Much of my work has been in developing people-centred approaches to decision-making and priority setting. I’m excited by the potential of genomics and personalised healthcare to transform how we work, if handled with care. I enjoy exploring the biases and power inequities within science and demonstrating the importance of tacit knowledge as part of research, ultimately advocating for better investment in people as connectors, knowledge holders and researchers within communities.

I have facilitated a range of training opportunities for researchers, professionals and community advocates to enable public engagement development. I believe in the power of arts and cultural approaches in building connection and understanding, and am considerate of dignity and social justice as part of my practice.

I was Chair of the Board of Trustees for BrightSparks Arts in Mental Health CIC for two years.

In any spare time, I support my auntie who is a pub landlady by day, one-woman stand up comedy theatrical performer championing for better education and support for the menopause by night!
